Black Water Grave is a great haunt for anyone looking for a fun night of scares. The attraction features two very different haunted houses and a midway that gives the whole event a nice Halloween festival feel. The clown performers deserve a special mention for being deeply unsettling. Reminding you why clowns became a horror trope in the first place.
The first house, The Harvest, delivered strong Texas Chainsaw Massacre vibes. Rustic, grimy, and full of “absolutely not” energy, it did a great job building tension as you walked through.
The real star of the night was the Ravenswood Asylum. Walking through it felt like taking a tour of the world’s most questionable pharmacy, with inmates constantly trying to offer pills and prescriptions that were not FDA-approved. The actors in this attraction brought more energy, the scares hit more consistently, and the whole experience felt more interactive. It also had the stronger finale of the two, ending with a maze of flashing strobes that had us wondering if we’d accidentally signed up for a part-time residency in the asylum.
While Black Water Grave isn’t the most intense haunt, the scares are approachable, the actors are enthusiastic, and there are some jump scares that we were not ready for! There’s enough atmosphere to keep things spooky, without feeling overwhelmed.
Overall, Black Water Grave is a fun, well-rounded haunt with two distinct experiences, a lively midway, some genuinely creepy clowns scare actors roaming about, and an Asylum haunt that steals the show. If you’re introducing younger family members to haunted attractions or know someone who says, “I like scary stuff, but not TOO scary,” this is the perfect place to test that theory.
