After some notably empty sections toward the front, more monsters started popping up …and out …as we made our way through the trail. A low energy level seemed to affect our last visit here. Actors and scenes just did not pop as much as our trip before that, which also was our first ever. Well, they changed that around all right. The cast was hopped up and hyped up from the git-go. They were bold and aggressive, eager to body us up and get in our grills to make a putrid point.
The potty-mouthed devil here is always good for a chuckle and a menacing conversation. In the graveyard, we passed a series of progressively louder mourners who wailed their hearts out and also took time to have cross-talk between them. “I’m sorry you have to be without a dad at three years old, I know just how you feel,” one of them told another. Who says you can’t have tender moments at a haunt?
On the not-so-tender end of the spectrum, a shirtless, bloody maniac assaulted a victim and then sniffed us all over. When we asked if we smelt good, the answer was “mm-hmm” delivered just like the guy from the movie Sling Blade.
We came across a youngster who matter-of-factly told us they had to kill mommy because she misbehaved. That escalated rather quickly. Don’t count these kids out! They have very good child actors here, much better than we are used to seeing elsewhere and probably the best as a group we’ve ever seen. In truth, they kind of freak us out.
The carnival tent had a sign saying “In the circus no one can hear you scream,” but we sure heard the clowns screaming! They were wild and thoroughly wound up. They surrounded us and yelled at us lustily, and one of them delivered a savage beat-down to another one with a bat.
Costuming-wise, we saw everything from simple blood-streaked faces to someone dressed in a full-body hot dog outfit – that might be a first for us weenies! The pig people looked perfectly porcine with their great big porky heads, their official chainsaw mascot rocked a greasepaint face with biker jacket look, a cowboy-hatted-and-kerchiefed villain looked like they were ready to Texas-twister our heads from our shoulders, and Lucifer looked devilishly stylish in a wicked metallic mask with horns. Cool accessories included a pyromaniac brandishing a smoking piece of wood and one of the clowns who kept cranking up a bizarre-sounding and loud noise maker.
