Summary

Established in 1894 on the west side of Cincinnati, the Dent Schoolhouse was designed to give local children the education they needed to step into the world prepared for adulthood. Little did the residents of Dent know the horrors that would unfold between 1948 and 1955. What had once been a prestigious and nurturing institution would become a gateway to something far more sinister, as several unfortunate children mysteriously vanished or met gruesome ends within its walls. The school had become a gateway to Hell itself, opened by a twisted and depraved man whose job was supposed to be caring… Read More…

Guest Experience9.82

The Dent Schoolhouse is prominently situated along Harrison Avenue, perched eerily atop a hill and nearly impossible to miss. Its large projection screen plays horror movies while a school bus with flashing red lights sits in the courtyard, immediately setting the stage for the horrors that await. For several years, the Dent Schoolhouse has conveniently partnered with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital to provide ample parking just a short walk from the haunt’s entrance. Security checkpoints and a visible local law enforcement presence help ensure a safe and secure experience. Staff members wearing high-visibility vests and carrying walkie-talkies constantly patrol the grounds,… Read More…

Immersion9.47

From the moment you step onto the property, you’re immediately immersed in the world the Dent Schoolhouse has created. The large, ominous schoolhouse towers over the grounds, standing eerily silent as it awaits its next batch of unsuspecting students. Once inside, the story truly comes to life through large, elaborate set pieces that bring the school’s sinister history to life. Transitions between classrooms are seamless, with no two rooms feeling alike, yet each fits naturally into the overall experience. Some of the outdoor sections, however, didn’t quite pack the same punch as their indoor counterparts. They lacked some of the… Read More…

Special Effects9.49

When you think of the Dent Schoolhouse, two things immediately come to mind: its massive, intricately designed set pieces and its elaborate storytelling. The school truly comes to life, immersing you in an atmosphere of dread from the moment you lay eyes on its movie-quality sets. Adding to the realism is an impressive collection of high-tech scares strategically incorporated throughout the attraction. From shifting bookshelves and perfectly timed lunging props to a simple yet effective lighting package, every element works together to enhance the atmosphere and bring each scene to life. The audio design is equally impressive, with soundscapes carefully… Read More…

Characters9.2

The Dent Schoolhouse is home to an incredible cast of wild, unhinged characters, each more grotesque and terrifying than the last. The sheer diversity of their appearances and costumes is enough to make your head spin! Even if you went through the haunt five times with a checklist in hand, you’d still have a hard time fully appreciating every actor and the incredible amount of time, effort, and creativity poured into bringing each character to life. It often feels as though a new face is lurking around every corner at Dent. Several scenes feature multiple actors, allowing even larger groups… Read More…

Scare Factor8.55

One thing worth noting about the Dent Schoolhouse is just how busy it can get, particularly on weekends like the night of our visit. With such a high volume of guests, groups are sent through at a relatively rapid pace, making it likely that you’ll eventually catch up to the group ahead of you. This can present a challenge for the cast, who must deliver effective scares while maintaining the experience for multiple groups moving through the same areas. As a result, many interactions are intentionally brief and abrupt, designed to deliver a quick startle without giving away the scare… Read More…

Value7.72

On the night of our visit, general admission tickets were $35, and our tour lasted 21 minutes, resulting in an MPD (minutes per dollar) score of 0.6. This falls below our preferred benchmark of 1.0, but there’s more to consider than runtime alone. The Dent Schoolhouse delivers an incredibly elaborate production, featuring large, beautifully designed sets and a massive midway packed with additional entertainment such as photo ops, a gift shop, escape rooms and ax throwing. It’s also worth noting that we visited on one of the haunt’s busier nights, and ticket prices vary depending on the day you attend.… Read More…

Put vasoline on some of the props to make them look wet for realism. Use the chainsaws less inside the building Because of the fumes.
