Remember, this is not a “best of” list – this is a list of haunts we feel that you need to add to your visit list this season for various reasons. Now… let’s get to this list of spooky shenanigans!
#8. Hexed Haunted Attraction – Elliston, Virginia
Hexed Haunted Attraction is celebrating 14 years of fear in 2025! Experience six different attractions at one location, including Scarecrow’s Harvest, The Witch House, Manner’s Meats, 1984: All Hallow’s Eve, Hexed Penitentiary, and the Freakshow. The attractions open on October 3rd!
#7. Terror Manor – Roanoke, Virginia
Deep in the heart of Roanoke, Virginia, Terror Manor is a haunted house that’s been terrifying visitors for going on seven years. With its sprawling 59,000 square feet of haunted hallways and rooms, this attraction is a nightmare factory. The cast of over 70 actors is dedicated to creating a truly terrifying experience! The screams begin September 19th for the 2025 season!
#6. Fear Forest – Harrisonburg, Virginia
Fear Forest consists of three haunted attractions at one location! Celebrating their 20th season, they’re bringing Fear Forest, Fear Crops, and the Fear Factory to scare guests all season long. Opening night is October 3rd, 2025!
#5. Red Vein Haunted House – Ashland, Virginia
Nestled just beyond the bustling city of Richmond, VA, in the suburban town of Ashland, lies one of the most creative and well-put-together haunts in all of Virginia, Red Vein. In 2025, guests will experience Red Vein: Blood Rights – “Through the blood, those that wait, awaken… this October, a decade of darkness culminates as ancient covens and lurkers of the night converge for the sacred and gruesome Blood Rites, resurrecting the infamous Ashland Witch.” The season begins on September 27th with four attractions: The Asylum, Corn, Woods, and House.
#4. Madhaunters Madhouse – Purcellville, Virginia
Tucked away on a winding dirt road, far from the safety of streetlights, lies one of Northern Virginia’s most spooky haunts, Madhaunter’s Madhouse. With over 25 years of experience, Madhaunter has perfected the craft of terror! Opening night for the 2025 season is September 27th!
#3. The Nefarious Haunt Experience – Gum Spring, Virginia
The Nefarious Haunt Experience has a new home at the Grayhaven Winery! This haunt awaits those seeking a petrifying adventure like no other. This Scavenger Hunt-based Haunted House is not for the faint of heart. It promises an immersive and uniquely terrifying experience that will leave you questioning your bravery and sanity throughout the attraction. We can’t wait to see what they do in their new space!
#2. Milltown Haunt – Lovettsville, Virginia
Inside the haunt, we were astounded by the creativity and craftsmanship. It was an experience like no other. Milltown Haunt doesn’t just deliver scares; it provides a complete, immersive experience combined with a welcoming, community-like feel. It’s a must-visit haunt! Complete with three attractions for the 2025 season, the scares begin on October 3rd! Guests can experience The Thorne House + Barn of Fears, Tricksters Hollow, and The Void!
#1. Frightmare – Chesapeake, Virginia
Straight up, this haunt was the scariest attraction that Team Living Dead Duo visited last season! Here at The Scare Factor, we like scary! We went all in with the Extreme experience, and here’s a heads-up: we were forcefully grabbed, kidnapped, tied up, dragged, taped, bound, locked in tiny spaces, and forced to crawl. If that sounds like your kind of adrenaline rush, then the extreme option is totally for you! This is a must-see for anyone looking for an ultimate scare. “A new chapter in horror” begins September 12th, 2025!
