Summary

UNDead in the Water is one of the most unique haunted attractions in Florida, and honestly, it has a built-in advantage that most haunts can only dream of. Taking place aboard the historic American Victory Ship, a real WWII Navy cargo vessel docked in Tampa. You weave through decks, corridors, and compartments that already feel eerie before a single actor jumps out at you. This year’s story revolves around Project Rebirth, a government experiment that goes horribly wrong. The setup has strong Resident Evil vibes, with a scientific project unleashing horrors throughout the ship. What makes this haunt stand out… Read More…

Guest Experience6.7

Getting to UNDead in the Water can be a little confusing if you’ve never been before. The ship isn’t exactly sitting next to a giant flashing “haunted house” sign. My advice? Head toward the waterfront and look for the Florida Aquarium; it’s just behind it. Once you’re in the right area, the ship becomes hard to miss! The good news is that once you actually find the haunt, everything else is straightforward. Ticket pickup was simple, staff members were helpful, and finding the queue wasn’t a challenge at all. The cast and crew throughout the event were professional and clearly… Read More…

Immersion7.45

If there’s one area where UNDead in the Water absolutely succeeds, it’s immersion. You simply can’t beat a real set. Most haunted attractions spend a fortune trying to convince you that you’re somewhere else but UNDead in the Water doesn’t have to pretend- you really are on an old ship! From the moment you step onto the gangplank in the first room illuminated with that eerie red light, you’re exploring a real piece of history that already feels like the perfect setting for a horror story- especially a zombie one! The transition from the outside world to the haunt is… Read More…

Special Effects7.23

The real MVPs of the evening are the sound and lighting design. Metal groans echo through the corridors, alarms blare in the distance, water drips, and the strategic use of darkness keeps you constantly guessing what’s around the next corner. Sometimes the scariest effect is simply not being able to see three feet in front of you. As for physical props, there aren’t many. You’ll find a few bodies scattered throughout the attraction and one memorable animatronic scene, but that’s about it. On one hand, the restraint works because the ship itself provides more atmosphere than most haunts could ever… Read More…

Characters7.55

One area where the attraction really shines is the size of its cast. With more than 50 performers spread throughout the ship, there was rarely a moment when you felt alone. Every time I thought I had successfully escaped the last scare, another actor appeared out of nowhere to inform me that I was, in fact, mistaken! The performers were energetic, professional, and fully committed to the experience. They delivered some genuinely effective jump scares lurking in the shadows, while helping guide guests through the ship’s twisting corridors. One thing I noticed is that the characters started to blend together… Read More…

Scare Factor7.33

The biggest strength is simply the number of performers. They keep the pressure on from start to finish, and there are plenty of moments that will catch guests off guard with jump scares. The ship’s tight hallways and blind corners only make those scares more effective in the end. That said, the scare styles can feel a little repetitive- mostly jumping out from a corner and moaning. After a while, you start to recognize the formula and the scares become less. A bit more variety in the scare tactics would help bring up the immersion level. One thing the attraction… Read More…

Value6.82

At around $32 per ticket after taxes and fees, the price feels fair for what you’re getting, but it’s right on the edge of becoming expensive. The attraction is unlike almost anything else out there. You’re exploring a real historic cargo ship, climbing through multiple decks, and encountering a massive cast of performers. That’s a level of immersion most haunts simply can’t match. The haunt itself took about 20 minutes to complete and would be considered family-friendly, depending on your level of fear and physical ability. The bigger issue is parking. Depending on where you park, that can add another… Read More…
