There are many great haunted houses, spooky trails, haunted hayrides, and more in the state of Kentucky. But which ones should you focus on visiting this season? We’ve created a creepy list of Halloween haunted house attractions that we’ve reviewed, visited ourselves, filmed, or are popular amongst many haunt visitors! Remember, this is not a “best of” list – this is a list of haunts we feel that you need to add to your visit list this season for various reasons. Now… let’s get to this list of spooky shenanigans!

#10. USS Nightmare – Newport, Kentucky

USS Nightmare is one of the only haunted house attractions out there that takes place aboard a real, floating boat on the Ohio River! Just outside of Cincinnati, Ohio, the captain and his daughter, Anna, have many scary sights to show you. With two decks, 30+ minutes of fright, and a 15% ship jump rate (those who scaredy cat out of the haunt), this haunt is not for the faint of heart. USS offers multiple ticket options, including their signature RIP Experience, which amps up the regular show, adding a more immersive and intense experience with full touch and an extended tour of the ship.

#9. Nightmare Forest – Brandenburg, Kentucky

Nightmare Forest will throw you right into “Hollywood’s most horrifying moments” with two haunted trails and a haunted house. They’ll kick off their 34th season this year, beginning on September 13th!

#8. Black Orchard Haunted House – Shelbyville, Kentucky

What’s inside the barn? You’ll have to visit Black Orchard Meats to find out! We can assure you, it seems they’re not only butchering animals inside that barn… Each year, Black Orchard Haunted House gets better and better! This year, the slaughtering begins September 13th… The slaughtering of your fears, of course.

#7. Wicked World ScareGrounds – Nicholasville, Kentucky

This scream park offers three unique, adrenaline-pumping attractions: Nightmare Haunted House, The Hunted (an interactive zombie hunt), and Valley of the Dead trail. Whether checking in for an eternal hotel stay, running from crazed clowns, or trying not to become part of the decor, Wicked World has you covered if you’re in the market for nightmares! You can live the nightmares starting September 26th, 2025!

#6. Talon Falls Screampark – Hickory, Kentucky

Talon Falls Screampark features 13 terrifying mazes all at one location with a large midway where you can dance the night away, take plenty of group photos, interact with amazing characters, and even get a bite to eat, among other things. They’ll open their doors beginning September 26th for the 2025 season.

#5. Grim Trails Haunted Attraction – Louisville, Kentucky

Do you like fairy tales? What if they have sharp claws, giant teeth, and bite? That’s what you’ll find at Grim Trails, the haunt of fairy tales, myths, and legends! “Survive the Grim Tales at Grim Trails” starts on September 19th.

#4. Raven’s Cross Haunted Village – Cave City, Kentucky

Located down in Cave City, Kentucky, you’ll find an intense, 1300s-themed haunted attraction known as Raven’s Cross Haunted Village. Since 2016, Raven’s Cross Haunted Village has been delivering an idiosyncratic haunt experience dedicated to keeping a historical authenticity that adds a whole other layer to the exquisite terror they offer. While the haunt is officially for sale, they will be open for the 2025 season as usual!

#3. Haunted Hotel – Louisville, Kentucky

Known as Kentucky’s most extreme touch haunt, The Haunted Hotel remains a staple of the Louisville haunt scene. Is your haunt season really complete without a visit to these gritty, grungy, and gory grounds? Hopefully the elevator is fixed this year… or it may plummet you to the pits of an establishment so horrific you’ll never claw your way back out of! Room reservations for the 2025 season start early on September 6th! Remember… They’ll always leave the light on for you!

#2. The Devil’s Attic – Louisville, Kentucky

Celebrating 16 seasons of scaring the hell out of Louisville, The Devil’s Attic returns, and Satan has quite the collection of hellish souls waiting to feed on your fears. If you’re looking for intense actors, look no further! Hell is open starting September 13th!

#1. American Horrorplex – Louisville, Kentucky

Coming in as the #1 haunt in Kentucky for 2024, American Horrorplex has worked its way to the top of the charts for a reason – this is a haunt you don’t want to miss! This haunt reveals the burned-out ruins of the Bracken-Hart Institute. You must escape before it’s too late. But beware, the patients and staff run rampant, and none of them shall be trusted. When they start talking about implanting your very own flesh lumpkin inside you, it’s time to get the hell out of there! Tours of the hospital begin September 12th.
